Composite Yahweh

Composite Yahweh

This work is a composite of 114 images of Yahweh, god of the Torah, Qur'an and Old Testament, and is the latest stop on my quest to understand the act/art of god-creation. Included in the piece were paintings, drawings and photographs of sculptures and statues. This is a primarily Christian vision of god, as both Judaism and Islam prohibit representations of their creator god, making most of the source images Christian in origin.

The source images used to generate this composite consist of paintings, drawings, photographs of sculptures, and images from popular media (such as television or film). By creating these images, it is my intent to uncover clues regarding the collective, cultural representation of deity, and to inspire discourse.

The image is created by compositing (combining, layering, averaging) groups of exisiting photographs (or other images) into a single work. The process is achieved by manually aligning each image, then scanning and layering them using custom written software.
